A 34-year-old woman with clear cell sarcoma of the left ankle underwent a complete resection of the sarcoma with intent to cure. The post-op course was complicated by bacterial infection. She received post-op radiation therapy up to 6.2 MeV. As a result of the radiation, she developed a third degree radiation burn with partial tissue necrosis and muscle damage resulting in sti"ening causing loss of mobility and deep ulceration all the way to the bone. Picture 1 shows the foot with bacterial infection after resection but prior to radiation therapy. Pictures 2 show the progression of tissue necrosis and ulceration during radiation treatment prior to application of BerbereX Wound Cleanser.
BerbereX Wound Cleanser was applied once per day. The wound was covered with a gauze bandage. Picture 3 shows the healing progress after two weeks of treatment with BerbereX™. It shows complete tissue regeneration with reduced keloid (scar) tissue formation. Picture 4 shows the healing progress four weeks after beginning treatment with BerbereX™. There is evidence of complete tissue regeneration with normal skin pigmentation. Increased mobility was observed.
